This afternoon True Blue Explorer cruised out in reasonable conditions with a 10 knot breeze and slight swell. The passengers were looking forward to their first glimpse of the mighty humpbacks for this season. Today being our first cruise for 2010.
Just after passing through Sydney Heads the Skipper sighted a pod of approx 15 offshore bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), and 2 sea birds soaring through the troughs. Unfortunately no whales were sighted, however another pod of up to a dozen inshore bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus: 700kg lighter than the offshore) were encountered on the return cruise. Reports of a single whale further out which was quite elusive.
