Whale Sighting - Mon 17th May 2010
Number of Whales Seen : 3Total count: 3 whales, 15 - 20 Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 12 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus)
A Breaching whale just 800m from Sydney Heads. Today is overcast with rain squalls coming through however the whales aren't worried.
As soon as we came out from between the heads, we spotted a single humpback whale breaching about 800m off the coast. We followed this whale for a while - who was all to happy to entertain us - until at 2.10 pm the Skipper of Explorer reported a pod of two more humpbacks ("the acrobats of the sea") breaching just off the Sydney's coast. These whales were observed along the coast until it was time to turn back for port.
