Whale Sighting - Mon 24th May 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 4

Total count to date: 7 whales, 15 - 20 Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 12 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 1 Australian Fur Seal. Gannets, Black Browed Albatross and Sea Gulls.

Today True Blue Explorer cruised out in near perfect conditions. It was by far the best day this season with the Skipper reporting a pod of whales at 2.40 pm. They were spotted just 1/2 mile off Cape Bailey and with under 1 metre seas and a slight SW breeze it was excellent whale spotting conditions.

The first pod were 2 Humpbacks and as Explorer followed the whales they performed Fluke Up Dives, Tail Flukes and Breaching. An Australian Fur Seal was also out today. The passengers were well rewarded as another pod of 2 Minke Whales surfaced. During the afternoon pelagic sea birds graced the skies as both the Black Browed Albatross and Gannets soared through the troughs.

All our passengers were thrilled with the True Blue eco-experience this afternoon.
