Whale Sighting - Tue 25th May 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 3

Number of Whales sighted on the 2010 Northern migration: 63.

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer: 10 whales, 220 Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 20 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 12 Black Browed Albatross and plenty of Sea Gulls.

Today True Blue Explorer cruised out in calm conditions. The first sighting was just 3 miles East of Cronulla mid afternoon. A pod of 3 very active humpback whales were slowly swimming north (2 adults and a Juvenille) much to the delight of crew and passengers.

A large whale performed a FULL breach propelling its whole body completely out of the water just 100 metres from the vessel. The passengers witnessed fluke up dives, rolling over, Pectoral fin and tail slapping as they cruised alongside this friendly pod. The whales were very inquisitive coming very close to the vessel on several occasions.

On the return journey a pod of approx 200 Offshore Bottlenosed Dolphins were jumping through the bow waves and the passengers were treated to this rare sight. Gannets were plentiful today and very large schools of fish including Bonito & Mackrel Tuna.

It was fantastic to have two days of fine weather, calm seas and great whale sightings.
