Whale Sighting - Tue 22nd Jun 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 4

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 82 humpback whales, 2 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 74 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 20 Black Browed Albatross and plenty of Sea Gulls.

Today True Blue Explorer and her crew cruised out in reasonable conditions however the wind has turned creating a slightly uncomfortable chop on the water. Our Captain reported a pod of 2 very large humpbacks just 2.5 mile off Bondi this afternoon, they were content to slowly swim along with plenty of surface time. This allowed the passengers to have a good look at these magnificent creatures. Whilst following these whales a pair were spotted BREACHING 1 mile north. A pod of approx 12 bottlenosed dolphins came bouncing over to ride on Explorer's bow waves creating excitement on board as passengers manovered to get their happy snaps. As the vessel came upon the 2 breaching whales they had stopped and were just happily swimming north.
