Whale Sighting - Thu 24th Jun 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 12

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 95 humpback whales, 2 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 74 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 20 Black Browed Albatross and plenty of Sea Gulls.

Conditions were excellent for the morning cruise with just 1m of gentle swells & no wind.

2 Humpbacks were spotted 3.5 miles East of Bondi. They were heading North. They gave The Explorer a few looks at their tail prints with many fluke up dives. 2 more whales were spotted further South and were on a mission North with a lot of long down time.

Albatross and Gannet were also enjoying the gentle conditions of the morning seas.

The afternoon cruise experienced some great interaction form the Whales.

Filling passengers expectations with a competition pod of 4 Humpback Whales spotted 3 mile off Macquarie Lighthouse perfect sea conditions once again with winds of 5 knots.

Only 2 miles behind the pod of 4 were another 2 Whales. The passengers were treated to seeing the 2 pods join together to become a pod of 6. The interaction between them has been reported as fascinating viewing.

On the return to Sydney Harbour 2 more Humpbacks were spotted in between the headlands. Overall a great day for Whale enthusiasts with a total of 12 whales for the entire day.
