Whale Sighting - Fri 2nd Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 18

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 185 humpback whales, 1 Southern Right, 2 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 74 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 20 Black Browed Albatross and plenty of Sea Gulls.

Beautiful cruising conditions this morning upon the True Blue Explorer. We saw 2 pods of 2 Humpback whales, performing some beautiful fluke up dives whilst swimming north, 2 miles off Manly. Our passengers were surprised by a single whale breaching in the distance, upon our approach, the skipper identified the whale to be a Southern Right whale! The Southern Right whale delighted our passengers with some playful tail lobs and spectacular tail slaps.

This afternoons True Blue passengers were in for a treat! Sighting 13 whales in total, they followed a competition pod of 7. These whales were aggressively trying to attract the attention of the female whales whilst giving us a show. The passengers experienced some head lunging, pectoral fin slapping and large fluke up dives by the humpback whales.
