Whale Sighting - Sat 3rd Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 16

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 198 humpback whales, 1 Southern Right, 2 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 74 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 20 Black Browed Albatross and plenty of Sea Gulls.

A pod of 2 Humpbacks were sighted North off Sydney headlands and eventually split up into 2 single whales. 4 whales were sighted a further 4 mile out off Manly beach.

1 single whale was spotted on the way back through the headlands who was coming right up to the boat. It may of mistaken the Explorer for its mother as it was a juvenile whale and the The Explorer is roughly the length of a fully grown Humpback. A pod of 3 were sighted at the entrance before returning to the harbour making the morning a very memorable trip.

A total of 10 for the morning.

The conditions were average with South Westerly winds blowing at 20 Knots with a .5-1m swell.

The Kooee saw a pod of 2 whales, north of the headlands. They were breaching, head lunging and tail slapping for all the passengers on board.

The Explorer found a pod of 2 and a pod of 3 whales south of Macquarie Lighthouse. These whales were gracefully swimming north whilst coming right up to the side of the boat to say hello.
