Whale Sighting - Fri 9th Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 16

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 220 humpback whales, 1 Southern Right, 2 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 84 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 20 Common Dolphins, 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 20 Black Browed Albatross and plenty of Sea Gulls.

This morning's whale watching cruise found 2 pod's of 2 whales cruising on their northern migration. They were gracefully swimming alongside the boat saying a big hello to our True Blue passengers. 1 more single whale spotted on journey home.

This afternoon we had both True Blue and Kooee head out for whale watching. The vessels cruised out to sea and found 2 breeching whales just 1 mile off the heads. These whales were putting on a great show for all passengers when another 2 whales were spotted off in the distance. The seas had calmed down this afternoon with no wind making it a nice afternoon.

Just when all was content another 7 were found. 1 pod of 2, 1 pod of 3 and 2 single whales spotted on the journey home travelling solo making it a grand total of 11 for the afternoon.
