Whale Sighting - Mon 12th Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 12

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 242 humpback whales, 1 Southern Right, 2 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 84 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 20 Common Dolphins, 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 20 Black Browed Albatross and plenty of Sea Gulls. 4 Fiary Penguins.

Wonderful sea conditions this morning. The Explorer found 2 Humpback whales just outside North Heads. These playful whales were breeching and tail slapping for all passengers and crew on board. We later found another 2 pod's of 2 whales on the way back in.

This afternoon's cruise found 3 pods of 2 whales just near Diamond Bay. These inquisitive whales surrounded the Explorer from the front, behind and beside the vessel. Some lovely close encounters had by all.
