Whale Sighting - Wed 14th Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 12

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 265 humpback whales, 3 Southern Right, 2 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 84 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 20 Common Dolphins, 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 20 Black Browed Albatross and plenty of Sea Gulls. 4 Fairy Penguins.

2 pods of 2 Humpbacks were spotted 2 mile off Sydney headlands. Tail Slapping was seen as well as Fluke Up Dives.

Albatross & Skewers were ample which gave passengers on board a look at a different kind of sea life. Another pod of 2 were seen on the journey home 1.5 mile from Sydney headlands. Conditions were average with strong north westerly winds.

2 pods of 2 were sighted on our PM trip 2 mile out from Manly Beach. They were hard to miss as they were breaching right out of the water.

2 more pods were discovered another 1 mile out. With 18 knot winds the conditions were choppy and that often excites whales.

Another single humpback was sighted a the entrance to Sydeny Heads with a short breach as the Explorer and her crew cruised into Sydney Harbour.
