Whale Sighting - Fri 16th Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 8

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 277 humpback whales, 3 Southern Right, 2 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 84 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 20 Common Dolphins, 2 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 22 Black Browed Albatross, and plenty of Sea Gulls. 4 Fairy Penguins.

Today the conditions were pleasant out on the water with a total of 6 whales sighted as we cruised along. With some nice fluke up dives and tail ups to add the the photo album.

The afternoon cruise started out with a pod of 2 whales 3 miles off Maroubra. Breaching, tail slapping and fluke up dives were the order of the afternoon. With winds getting up to 18knots the captain decided to keep passengers comfortable by cruising back to the harbour at a slow speed picking up another pod of 2 along the way.

A pleasant day to be out with the whales.
