Whale Sighting - Fri 23rd Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 5

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 341 humpback whales, 3 Southern Right, 3 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 94 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 20 Common Dolphins, 3 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 22 Black Browed Albatross, and plenty of Sea Gulls. 4 Fairy Penguins.

This morning the conditions are settling from the southerly that whipped up yesterday. The whales are also out with Explorer's Captain reporting their first sighting at 10 am just 2 miles off the Botany Bay area. 1 humpback with some nice strong blows. A pod of Common Dolphins were sighted riding the bow waves as we cruised out with the whale. Another pod of 2 were sighted shortly afterwards.

A mother and calf were sighted this afternoon shortly after leaving the heads. Also a single whale was also sighted. The antics this afternoon included a full breach, pectoral fin slaps and fluke up dives.

The seas were a little unsettled however the passengers were thrilled at the action on the water this afternoon.
