Whale Sighting - Wed 28th Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 10

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 367 humpback whales, 3 Southern Right, 3 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 94 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 20 Common Dolphins, 3 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 22 Black Browed Albatross, and plenty of Sea Gulls. 4 Fairy Penguins.

The AM trip saw 6 whales total with some early full breaching. They started as 2 pods of 3 and were very excited to join together as 1 larger pod with lots of pec slaps & pec waves from these playful Humpbacks.

The PM trip saw a little more sedate whales in comparison to the AM cruise with 2 single whales and a pod of 2.

The Skipper thought the singles may also join up to become a larger pod but they seemed to be heading in an easterly direction which gave passengers the impression they were both either very shy whales or they were running away heading toward New Zealand!

Another great day for all with a total of 10 whales spotted for the day.
