Whale Sighting - Thu 29th Jul 2010

Number of Whales Seen : 3

Whales sighted off True Blue vessel Explorer this season: 367 humpback whales, 3 Southern Right, 3 minke, 220 Offshore or Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), approx 94 Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops aduncus), 20 Common Dolphins, 3 Australian Fur Seal. Flocks of Gannets, 22 Black Browed Albatross, and plenty of Sea Gulls. 4 Fairy Penguins.

The PM trip had a single whale close in today, just off the Maquarie Lighthouse. Performing a couple of fluke up dives and swimming slowly along. Shortly after a pod of 2 were picked up and these were followed as they swam along.

A pod of 3 were spotted further out, Explorer didn't follow these as time was running out.

Reports from spotters on the South Coast have reported good numbers of whales still swimming north. This means there will be a lot more to see in the coming weeks.
